Web.com is a web hosting services provider that has been in operation since the 90’s. Today, the brand occupies many peripherals adjacent to web hosting and it has led many to ask whether or not the company has spread itself too thin. We’ll get into why that may be the case later in this review. For now, let’s focus on the critical criteria for judging a proper web hosting service provider. These points are uptime, load time, plans, pricing and customer service. We wrap up with a conclusion and our thoughts on the provider as a whole. Keep reading to learn more about Web.com in this full review.

Web.com Load time

Web.com delivers a middle-of-the-road experience when it comes to page load times. It doesn’t excel with the top-tier brands, but also remains higher than average. This is reassuring considering the issues we ran into on initially setting up our test site with the website builder, but that’s another story entirely.

Web.com Uptime

When it came to uptime, Web.com had very little issues over a 30-day period, with only a few minor downtime events that lasted no longer than 10 minutes over the test period. This is significant, considering the level of speeds we received from the provider. So, marks for consistency and reliability to Web.com on the ability to maintain uptime.

Web.com Plans and services

Considering the packages available from Web.com, there isn’t much to speak on beyond the VPS hosting options. Without offering more robust options, like cloud hosting, we really can’t consider this provider a contender with more modern providers, like BlueHost and Host1Plus. The provider offers three main hosting packages, which include Essential, Professional, and Premium Hosting. With the second option being the default, that is what we decided to review. Plan features include, but are not limited to:

  • 500GB Disk Space
  • Unlimited Data Transfer
  • 50 FTP Accounts
  • 500 Multi-user Email boxes
  • 1-year domain registration

Additional services provided by Web.com include drag and drop webpage building, marketing, ecommerce, and enterprise solutions.

Web.com Cost

Web.com plan costs are about what one might expect from a middle-range web hosting service provider. The most basic, in this case Essential, plan will cost $5.95 per month to begin, with an increase after the initial promotional period. The more expensive plans reach an initial $9.95 per month with an increase following the introductory period. Web domains will incur an additional $38 for renewal after the introductory period has expired.

Web.com Support

Support at Web.com leaves a lot to be desired, with poorly trained staff, surprise fees with little explanation and plain poor bedside manner around every turn. This may be the one place that Web.com has the most room for improvement.

Conclusion

While Web.com has been around about as long as the eldest web hosting services, they have failed to deliver on a few areas that their contemporaries have made essential in their delivery. While speed and reliable uptime are what we expect a good web hosting service provider to offer, quality support is just as important. We feel this is where Web.com can make the biggest improvements apart from modernizing with cloud hosting offerings.
